Hi Everyone!
As we look towards next season (which I’m SO excited about, by the way!), I wanted to write a post about class suggestions. Our teachers suggest classes for dancers for the next season-classes that we think will help them grow and evolve as dancers! Here are a few things to know about these suggestions.
1. It’s normal to spend 2-3 years in one level! Unless we had 14 levels-one for each year from preschool to senior year, dancers will spend more than one year in each level. This doesn’t mean that dancers will be spending the year relearning everything they did the previous year. Our teachers talk about what was covered the previous year, and make sure to meet dancers at their level and challenge them throughout the year. Please give our teachers the first couple of weeks though-they need to get to know the dancers in their class and their goals!
2. You may have multiple options for what classes you can take based on your grade! We have classes for grades 1-3, 3-5, and 4-6, so dancers in grades 3-4 have a few choices for classes. Dancers in 1st grade can take any of the grades 1-3 classes, or Twirl N’ Tap, or Kinderhop! We like options. Some dancers do best if they’re one of the older students in the class, where they can be a leader for the other dancers. Some dancers do better being one of the younger dancers. If you aren’t sure which class would be the best fit, feel free to reach out to us!
3. We’ve been doing this for a long time! Please trust us 🙂 If, in the fall, we feel like a dancer would do better in a different class, we’ll reach out to you. We are always happy to answer questions, and if after classes begin you feel that the class your dancer is in isn’t a good fit, we would be happy to check in with the teacher and see if a change needs to be made.
We are proud of all of our dancers, and look forward to classes next season! Please remember that in dance, just as in school or sports, each student is different. Comparison is the thief of joy, and dance should be joyful!
